Predictive Analytics and Local Governments

Post by PredictiveLocal on Fri Mar 17, 2017 2:03 pm

Has anyone tried to use predictive analytics outside of law enforcement within local governments? I have heard of anecdotes of use in code enforcement. Any information will be most helpful

You bring up a great question. While policing has taken great advantage of predictive analytics, other departments are doing it as well. For example, Georgia Tech and the Atlanta fire department have teamed up to predict (with 77% accuracy) where building fires are likely to happen (given blighted buildings etc).

Here is a link to their webpage: http://firebird.gatech.edu/

It appears that the New Orleans is doing something similar while other work has been done in Oakland and Baton Rouge. I can find out more if you would like but I think these are pretty eye-catching.
